Welcome ABCDreams Tanzania – C.B.O.

In 2015 we attempted to set up ABCDreams Tanzania as an NGO without success. We concluded with the post that:

“In the run-up to the second meeting of our NGO Art Building Children’s Dreams Tanzania on April 18th we have finished our NGO Offices at Makomu Secondary School. The pictures below show our fundis working on the redecoration of the ABCDreams office at Makomu Secondary School.”

And,

“despite all our collective efforts to publish a constitution for the purpose of registering ABCD Tanzania as a local NGO, our application was rejected in the first instance.”

Well, we are now ‘live’ and registered as a Community Based Organization (CBO)! Thank you to Sebastian and Thomas for their efforts to set this up. At a meeting of board members and ordinary members held on January 22,2016 our registration number was announced: ABCDreams Tanzania CBO reg. Number is: MJ/HUM/1711201566. What’s more we were told that this can be considered the first step in the registration process for an NGO, eventually! This process takes 3-6 months and needs to happen in Dar es Salaam so we will need to stay active in pushing this goal.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch we have now welcomed our colleagues from ABCD Canada for a period of 4 weeks in which they will be distributing funds for school contributions and for the feeding programme in the primary schools. In conjunction with our Canadian colleagues we have also organised a Leadership Conference for girls, held this weekend, February 19th and 20th. Girls of all ages have been invited from the community to learn of the possibilities and pitfalls of leadership. The conference is funded by the Canadian UNIFOR organisation, Canada’s largest private sector union, assisting with programmes encouraging the empowerment of women in the workplace.

With our 2nd meeting of the year coming up next week we hope to discuss the issue of bank accounts for our CBO as well as forthcoming possibilities for fundraising.

More soon.
